I had the exact symptoms you do. Paul and INTRUDN are right. I placed some narrow strips of duct tape on the outer ring that holds the lens, pressed it back into place and re-tightened. Rattle gone. It did sound louder with my windshield in place. I suspect a typical windshield reflects this type of rattle back towards the rider.
